I have read a book called Tea With Grumpyboots by Jenny Alexander. It is a fiction.

This book is about a young girl called Sam and her neighbours, Mr and Mrs Green.  Mr Green is ill for a long time. Sam keeps her promise and takes Mr Green’s dog, Scrap, for a walk every day after school. Mrs Green is a cheerful and kind old woman. She is very grateful and always invites Sam in for tea and says thank you for taking care of their dog.

One day, Mrs Green is excited to tell Sam that her husband decides to join them for tea. However, Mr Green ignores Sam and looks out of the window without saying a word. At first, Sam feels he is so grumpy and difficult to get along with. After Mrs Green yells very loudly at her husband, Sam realises that he is deaf and understands his rude attitude.

Then, Mr Green starts to tell her about his childhood in the Second World War. He is evacuated to the countryside with a dog, tilly. They live on a farm together and Mr Green takes care of Tilly heartily. He never forgets those happy days. However, when the war is finished, they must have to be parted. The memory with Tilly is only a photo.

After talking about his childhood, he shows the photo of Tilly to Sam. He suggests to take a photo of Sam with his dog, like the old photo. He hopes Sam can have a sweet memory too. Sam sees Mr Green’s smile for the first time. She thinks Mr Green is really happy and feels guilty about her judgement to Mr Green before. After the day, Sam really enjoys having tea with the Green’s family.

I thought this book was meaningful and amazing. The plot was very realistic and reflected the life of Mr Green brilliantly through the amusing conversations. I was touched by the love between Mr Green and Tilly. I have learnt that we should treasure the time we spend with our family, friends and pets. Besides, everyone could be an angel. We should be kind and always respect and love people around us. We can sacrifice ourselves to help others. Love can touch and inspire people. Love is the best and the most valuable thing between one another, even with the animals.

My favourite character was Sam. She left a deep impression on me. She was very brave and caring. She cared about others’ feelings. Although she was afraid of staying alone with Me Green, she could overcome the fears and tried to talk to him. If I were Sam, I would understand the personality of a person first but not the appearance. I would like to see and get to know about Mr Green. I would like to recommend this graet book to all my friends and family since they could learn to be loving and caring for others.
