A Book Report on "Tea with Grumpyboots"
6C Janice Wong

I have read a book called Tea with Grumpyboots by Jenny Alexander.  It is a fiction.

This book is about Sam, a young girl, and her neighbor, Mr. Green. Mr. Green’s wife is very grateful. She always invites Sam in for a cup of tea to say thank you to Sam because she takes care of Mr. Green’s dog, Scrap. Sam gets to know Mrs Green very well. She is not at all like her husband. Mr. Green always seems so grumpy, but Mrs. Green is cheerful and kind. And Mr. Green is very deaf. Sam thinks is rude before she that.

In the Second World War, some city children have been sent to live in the countryside, away from the bombing. A farmer called Mr. Hardy picks out six of older children, including Mr. Green. He expects the children to do the work on the farm.

The children do different jobs on the farm. Mr. Green’s job is helping with the animals. One time, Mr. Hardy sends Mr. Green to feed the chickens and he makes a mess with the corn bucket. Later, Mr. Green meets Tilly the dog and they become friends. He helps Tilly to get her confidence back.

After talking about his childhood, Mr. Green shows Sam a photo of Tilly. Then he takes a photo for Scrap. Mr. Green hopes that Sam can have a sweet memory with Scrap.

I thought the plot was amazing and touching. I enjoyed the climax which happened on the farm. It was full of love and care. I was touched by the characters.

From this story, I have learnt that we should not judge people by their appearance. Sam didn’t know Mr. Green was very deaf at the beginning. She thought Mr. Green ignored her and he was grumpy and rude. In fact, Mr. Green was kind and he wanted Sam to have a sweet memory with Scrap the dog, and helped her take a photo with Scrap.

I would like to recommend this meaningful book to my friends since they could learn to be caring and to have empathy with people around them.
