The Giving Mother

Once upon a time, there was a little girl called Mary. She lived in England. Her parents died in a traffic accident. She was taken care by her grandma who was handicapped. Grandma needed crutches to help her walk. Mary didn’t want her friends to know about her grandma because she thought they might laugh at her.

Grandma didn’t receive formal education but she always encouraged Mary to study hard at school. Grandma prepared meals for her every day and gave her everything she needed. But Mary skipped classes and played with bad friends. Grandma was worried about her. One day, Mary decided to go travelling with her friends, in USA. She needed much money for travelling. So, she made up a story to Grandma. She said, ‘I want to study in USA. Can you lend me some money?’ Grandma trusted her wholeheartedly and gave her a lot of money. Mary was excited to set off for USA.

After a year, Mary went back home. But she couldn’t find grandma and her parents’ house was gone. So she quickly called Uncle John, she asked, ‘Where is grandma living now and why my parents’ house was gone?’ Uncle John answered, ‘She is living in the elderly centre, and your parents’ house was sold for your tuition fee. Mary was shocked and ashamed of herself.

Then, Mary found Grandma in the elderly centre. Mary cried with tears and said sorry to grandma. Grandma was disappointed with her lies but forgave her. After that, Mary studied hard and looked after grandma truly.

This story teaches us that we shouldn’t lie to anyone especially those who love us. Otherwise, we will bear serious consequences. Also, we should respect the elderly who sacrifice for us. The elderly give up a lot for us and give all our mistakes. We should be thankful for their patience and dedication.
