Water Pollution has to be Reduced

Water pollution has been getting serious around the world recently. Pollutants are discharged directly and indirectly into water bodies without enough treatment. It causes extremely harmful to humans and animals as it affects drinking water, rivers, lakes and oceans. It also causes economic consequences. The problem of water pollution will become deadly serious unless we take actions to reduce wastage.

Firstly, water pollution has bad impacts on humans. Water pollution disrupts the natural food chain, and eventually humans are affected by this process. Tiny animals eat pollutants, then fish and shellfish eat tiny animals. At last, humans eat fish. Humans get hepatitis by eating poisoned seafood. Outbreak of cholera as a result of poor drinking water treatment from polluted waters. A report claimed that each year there are about 250 million causes of water-related diseases, resulting in about 5-10 million death. Water pollution harmful to humans.

In addition, water pollution has bad impacts on animals. The main problem caused by water pollution is that it kills life that depends on the water bodies. Water pollution affects the wildlife including oil-coated birds and sea turtles. As what eschooltoday.com stated that there was a huge oil spill in America by BP. Of the 400 miles of Louisiana coast, approximately 125 miles have been polluted by the oil spill. Over 1000 animals (birds, turtles and mammals) have been reported dead, including many already on the endangered species lists. Of the animals affected by the spill that are still alive only about 6% have been reported clean, but many biologists and other scientists predict they will die too. Animals die when water is poisoned.

Moreover, water pollution brings about economic loss. There are some real financial implications that will result from water pollution. It cost a lot more to purify drinking water. Fishing stock is affected negatively when there is a depletion of oxygen. In places where there are water activities or sports, lots of money is spent to clean up from this resources. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. tourism loses close to $1 billion each year, mostly from losses in fishing and recreational activities because of nutrient-polluted water bodies. Water pollution cost people a lot of money.

All in all, water pollution causes extremely harmful to humans, animals and economic consequences. Therefore, I definitely believe that water pollution has to be reduced.
