A Book Report on "The Rat Hunt"
6A Ashley Lam

I have read a book called ‘The Rat Hunt’. It is a fiction about co-cooperativeness written by Jenny Alexander.

This book is about Mouse, Jojo and Mouse’s missing pet rat, Ricky. It is Mouse and Jojo’s birthday and they are going to have a celebration after school. Mouse and Jojo are so excited that they can hardly eat their breakfast. Mouse puts Ricky into his cage before he goes to school and tells him to wait for the party. However, Jojo doesn’t want Ricky to join the party.

Mouse and Jojo are looking forward to the party and can hardly concentrate on their school work. They run all the way home after school. The house looks fantastic and is decorated with bunches of balloons and a banner. When Mouse goes to his bedroom to see Ricky, he finds that the cage door is opened and Ricky is missing. Mouse is furious and he grabs Jojo by the sleeve. He thinks it is Jojo who let Ricky out because she doesn’t want him in the party. The whole family tries their best to search for Ricky until their friends arrive. Mouse is sad and worried.

The party starts, Mr. Macdonald organises a treasure hunt. Mouse is too worried and doesn’t want to join. Mrs. Macdonald tells Mouse not to spoil the party and asks him to join. Then, the children start to hunt for the treasure by following the clues.

Mouse becomes more and more worried about Ricky and he does not enjoy the hunt at all. Jojo does a deal with Mouse and asks Mouse to enjoy the rest of the hunt and the others will help him look for Ricky later. At last, they find the treasure in the freezer. It is made of fancy choc-ices wrapped in gold foil. Suddenly, they hear a tiny sound and snore and find Ricky in the cake! Everyone is happy and tries to make the best of the lat shared party.

I thought this book was interesting and quite mysterious. With the clues of the treasure hunt and the missing of Ricky the rat, I am really very eager and curious to know what and how the story is going to happen next. My favourite character is Mouse because he is a very responsible owner and he has a kind heart. He really cares about his pet Ricky. However, I learnt from the story that we should always stay calm when we encounter difficulties. If you get too anxious, you will not be able to find a solution to your problem. If I were Mouse, I would stay calm and not to trouble myself with much anxiety or worries. I would try to find Ricky in a sensible way after I’ve enjoyed my party together with my friends and parents.

I would like to recommend this book to my six-year-old friend Natasha since it was a funny little story for a beginner. It is a relaxing, interesting and an easy to understand book which makes readers enjoy reading.
